The Faber Krahn Inequality and Extensions to Operators of Fourth OrderB KawohlThe Faber Krahn inequality states that among all clamped membranes of given area the circular one has the lowest fundamental frequency. In the lecture I will recall different proofs of this inequality and adress analogous questions for principal eigenvalues of fourth order operators. These model vibrations or buckling of clamped plates. |
