Abstract

The Faber Krahn Inequality and Extensions to Operators of Fourth Order B Kawohl The Faber Krahn inequality states that among all clamped membranes of given area the circular one has the lowest fundamental frequency. In the lecture I will recall different proofs of this inequality and adress analogous questions for principal eigenvalues of fourth order operators. These model vibrations or buckling of clamped plates.
