Research Interests

Research interests include:

  • Information Security: defining policy requirements and building access control technology
  • Privacy: understanding privacy and consent requirements in distributed collaborative information systems
  • Text Mining: collation, storage and analysis of text information
  • Distributed systems: building distributed information sharing and retrieval systems
  • Social Media Analysis: sentiment analysis and pattern matching to detect social issues and build systems to support resilience
  • Health Informatics: building secure systems to share and analyse electronic patient records and clinical information

While I am part of an academic team of researchers and lecturers, I have a persistent desire to drive my research and development from commercial requirements. As a member of the Jericho Forum, I am very interested in research and development that addresses the issue of de-perimeterisation in Information Systems.

  • miConsent: Revocable patient consent, TSB via Abies Ltd.
  • Supporting Empirical Digital Social Research with Virtual Research Environment, JISC.
