My research concerns developing techniques and algorithms to improve performance and efficiency of wireless communications networks. This includes:
- Developing detailed mathematical models and metrics to represent the diverse technical and economical constraints and objectives of wireless networks,
- Developing metaheuristic algorithms to select and configure network infrastructure.
Presently this work is concentrated on mobile telephony (UMTS and GSM), Broadband Fixed Wireless Access systems and Wireless Mesh Networks.
Current & Recent Research Projects
- Gigamobile: Gigabit mobile networking using incentivised operator controlled device-to-device communications, EPSRC (via Queens University Belfast).
- Using the smartphone to monitor mood states, Wellcome Trust.
