3D Model Segmentation and Analysis
Supervisor: Dr Y. Lai
Keywords: geometric models, shape analysis, segmentation, computer graphics, computer-aided design
With the development of 3D acquisition techniques, 3D models are now widely available and used in various applications. The demand for model analysis and understanding is thus ever increasing. Model segmentation, i.e. decomposing a model into a set of disjoint, meaning pieces (e.g. limbs and torso of an animal) or ones which satisfy other desirable criteria (e.g. with consistent shape or texture constraint). Model segmentation is an important step towards model understanding and has broad applications, such as reverse engineering in computer-aided geometric design, as well as simplification, collision detection, morphing and animation in computer graphics. This project aims at investigating effective and efficient solutions to model segmentation, using various computer vision techniques.
