Tracking the taxonomic revision process
Supervisor: Dr A.C. Jones
Keywords: to follow...
Scientists studying a group of organisms will typically propose re-grouping of organisms based on newly-observed features, re-analysis of already-known properties, etc. In order for this process to be successful in the context of handling and maintaining information electronically, the individual items must be labelled uniquely and their inter-relationships maintained. This project will investigate how the taxonomic revision process can be tracked electronically, and in particular it will include investigation of how globally unique identifiers and appropriate metadata can be used to facilitate this process.
