Automatic Bas-relief Generation
Supervisor: Dr X. Sun
Keywords: Geometric computing, Graphics, Image Processing
Bas-relief is a form of sculpture in which objects project slightly from the background. The production of bas-reliefs is currently a costly and time-consuming process, requiring skilled sculptors and engravers. Automatic capture of computer models of 3D shape is becoming more commonplace using 3D scanners. This provides a foundation for automation in bas-relief making, resulting in reduced costs and shorter time to market. Current commercial CAD tools for bas-relief work cannot be considered to provide a full solution to relief making. The academic work to date has also not achieved entirely satisfactory results. This project will involve developing and implementing automatic bas-relief generation algorithm.
Key Skills/Background: Strong mathematical background and excellent computing skills required.
