Students raise money for children’s charity
Ty Hafan ambassadors Jeff and Sheila Davies receive a cheque for £652 from the Comsci Student Society after they held a charity cake sale
Students from the Cardiff School of Computer Science & Informatics have enjoyed a taste of sweet fundraising success by holding a charity cake sale.
The Comsci Student Society raised a magnificent £652 for Ty Hafan, which charity ambassadors Jeff and Sheila Davies recently received at a special cheque presentation.
Ty Hafan provides comfort, care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families, and have helped over 400 families since 1999.
Committee members of the Comsci Student Society decided to raise money for this charity after seeing the invaluable work that they do, and set about perfecting their baking skills to sell cakes and raise as much money as possible.
Natalie Crawford, society president said: "After looking into Ty Hafan, I could clearly see that they do amazing things for the children that stay there, and really do give them the best opportunities to be happy.
"As for making cakes, there were about four of us in all, and if anyone else was like me it took a while to get right as many batches went straight in the bin after being burnt! We all put at least 20 hours into baking."
"The cake sales themselves occurred for two hours every day for a week. Throughout the week about eight people helped to sell the cakes at the stall, knock on doors and stop people in the corridor."
"I would like to personally say thank you to the few people that made cakes, but to the many that came and bought them! I really hope that Ty Hafan stays close to the Society's heart for all the years to come – it is a wonderful charity that really does deserve the support of everyone."
Liz Waters, Business and Community Fundraiser for Ty Hafan, said: "It is an absolute pleasure when young people raise money for other young people, as we offer care and support for children and young people up to the age of 19."
"On behalf of the children, teenagers and families of Ty Hafan I would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who has taken part on raising the amount of money that was raised. It really does make a huge difference to the families and will be very well spent."
