A memorial meeting to mark the life and work of
Professor M.S.P. Eastham

This meeting is a memorial to Michael Eastham FRSE, a distinguished expert in the field of spectral analysis and differential equations who died on 27 October 2012, aged 74.

Michael was a widely acknowledged authority on the spectral theory of differential equations, and was particularly well-known for his analytical skills. He made many significant contributions to such topics as the asymptotics of solutions of linear differential systems, the deficiency index problem, periodic problems, spectral concentration and resonances.

The meeting will focus on the following topics:

  • ordinary differential equations: selfadjoint and non-selfadjoint Sturm-Liouville operators, inverse problems;
    systems of differential equations: Dirac operators and other block operator matrices;
    non-linear differential equations;
    periodic differential operators and the structure of their spectrum.

The meeting will be held at the School of Computer Science & Informatics at Cardiff (Queens Buildings) in the West extension room WX/3.07 on 1-2 July 2013, commencing at 9:55am. The meeting will end at 13:00pm on the 2 July.
